Trail Riding and Camping Club
Local and New Mexico Trips AND Trail and Camping Preparedness

Program
The Red Horse Ranch Rough Riders Club provides adventurous horse lovers with the unique opportunity to explore local camping/trail venues and to explore the mountains of New Mexico with other folks who enjoy riding and camping.



Member Benefits
By participating in the RHR Rough Riders Club Preparedness Program, you will learn how to:

  •  Ride safely in real life situations on a variety of terrains
  •  Pack for camping & travel with horses
  •  Identify proper towing vehicles and equipment
  •  Handle a truck and trailer like a pro—including backing up!
  •  Tie and feed your horse while camping
  •  Keep yourself and your horse safe and healthy on the trail
  •  Identify native plants and wildlife
  •  Read maps, GPS and trail signs

Courses and Trips
Course Titles
Here are the recommended courses to complete for safe and fun trail riding experiences:

1. Develop a functional seat for trail riding and fitness for horse and rider

2. Trailering horses-the right rig and equipment

3. Packing and planning gear, line tying and feeding away from home

4. Healthcare for you & your horses and groceries for you

5. Riding risky terrain

6. Maps, trail reading & environment including game sign/habitat and native plants


Trips
Some of the challenging and fun trips we have planned for the Rough Riders:

  •  Bandera and Pedernales Park Site.

  •  5 Day Trip between June10-20, 2006—Scenic White Mountain Wilderness in Lincoln national Forest outside Ruidoso, NM. Ride the trails, all day or half day, spend the rest of the day at base camp or shop in nearby Ruidoso or Capitan, share an evening meal.

Fees
There are no club dues, but you are required to take at least 3 of the Preparedness Courses prior to participating in any of the local or New Mexico trips.

6 Courses (flat rate for 4-6 courses)

The courses are designed to create an independent rider and camper. The Rough Riders Club does not act as you guide or guardian during any trips. The Club is a connection point for riders with a mutual interest. Your registration in the Rough Riders Club, the Club’s Preparedness Program courses or individual trips indicates that you are assuming all responsibility for your rig, horse, gear, accompanying minors and yourself. First Aid kits required! You will be responsible for all health care during the trip.

Caravaning
Rough Riders Club associates are experienced and seasoned equine professionals. We have over 60 years total experience in the outdoors-camping, riding and hiking and trailering. We desire to make RRC activities fun, rewarding and safe for all members. Because of this we will offer a traveling safety net--If you would like to caravan together with us you are welcome. If you prefer to drive independently and  join us at any time during the New Mexico trip, feel free to do so. Ask us about our "safety net" travel plan.  
Rough Riders Registration Form
All riders must be independent and fully capable of controlling their horses for theirs and other’s safety. Trips require mounting on the trail and navigating steep mountain trails. *No Children under 10 years of age. RR Club reserves the right to refuse to take any rider deemed not to meet these requirements. Please complete one registration form for each member.
